TE Event: Balancing Industrial Policy and Global Trade Dynamics

Session Time

April 22nd

16:00 ET

RSVP before April 18.

Industrial policy initiatives are back in vogue, both domestically and abroad, and have implications for global trade dynamics and competitiveness. This trend, driven in part by the urgency of addressing climate change, global supply-chain disruptions, and technological innovations, has spurred a surge in subsidy programs. Government intervention aimed at fostering strategic industries, particularly green technologies, will create opportunities and challenges. Policymakers will need to carefully navigate these factors to balance promoting domestic industries while upholding fair competition in the global marketplace.

The TradeExperettes and the Embassy of Australia cordially invite you to an in-person event Balancing Industrial Policy and Global Trade Dynamics on Monday, April 22 at 4:00 PM ET to discuss this complex interplay between industrial policy and international trade in an increasingly interconnected world. The event will be hosted at the Embassy of Australia, located at 1601 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC.

Australia's Ambassador to the United States, the Hon Dr Kevin Rudd, will deliver opening remarks. The panel discussion features a group of distinguished experts: Cecilia Malmstrom, nonresident senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics and former EU Commissioner for Trade, Mari Pangestu, Indonesian Economist and former World Bank Managing Director of Development Policy and Partnerships, Timothy Keeler, partner of Mayer Brown, and will be moderated by Juliana Nam, Minister-Counsellor Trade at the Embassy of Australia. Tiffany Smith, Vice President of Global Trade Policy at the National Foreign Trade Council, will deliver closing remarks.

This event is made possible in part by the generous support of the National Foreign Trade Council and Silverado Policy Accelerator.
