TE Webinar: "Status Update: The Present and Future of US-China Trade"

Session Time

February 25th

01:00 - 02:00 CET

February 24th

20:00 - 21:00 AM EST

Trade relations between the United States and China are at a crossroads. The trade war started by the Trump administration shows no signs of letting up, and the chill it cast over US-China economic relations remains. Meanwhile, tensions are rising over technological cooperation and human rights. Still, there is no clear indication of where the relationship between these two major economic powers is heading.

In the United States, the Biden administration has offered a vague outline of its China policy, details on how it will handle the trading relationship remain sparse. Beijing appears to be taking a cautiously reactive approach, while at the same time continuing to build ties with other trading partners.

What will the future of U.S.-China trade relations hold? Will it be competitive, collaborative, or adversarial? How could US-China trade relations reshape global trade? And can countries in the Asia-Pacific region play a role in shaping the direction of this consequential relationship?

Join us for a lively discussion on these issues featuring Anna Ashton, Senior Fellow of Asia Society Policy Institute, Henry Gao, Senior Fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation, Deborah Elms, Executive Director of the Asian Trade Centre and President of the Asia Business Trade Association, and moderated by Huan Zhu, Vice President of the China Trade Monitor.
